Prior to entering the Assembly Hall in Jakarta Convention Center where the Indonesian Film Festival 2005 was stunningly staged, all the invited guests comprising from film making community and stakeholders, governments, and news makers mingled in welcoming atmosphere around the banquet tables. Perceptions and tittle-tattles around whos going to get the Citra Award, a superior level of award in Indonesian motion picture industry, radiated ubiquitously in the hall. Photo journalists and reporters emanated from all around the corners, sharing questions and opinions to young and senior movie-goers making the night as an up-beat gathering. The crowd then turned to the next hall where the grand event commenced and opened by H.E. Jero Wacik, the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia. Minster Wacik seemed to be a lot more well-known in the assembly, delivering conformity to back Indonesian movie industry.
In his brief opening speech, Minister Wacik in the presence of Minister of Communication and Information, Attorney General, and the Governor of Jakarta, stated that movie industry has proved itself enabling to create prosperity to the people. He sincerely hoped that national movie production would increase more significantly next year. Movie industry does create prosperity. Come and join together for the better future of national movie industry, said Minister Wacik.
Indonesian movie industry was once dormant for as long as twelve years. Minster Wacik recalled how he discussed with the national movie assembly to revive the industry. He said he had to go fearless to wake up the sleeping, once-eminent, giant. In 2004, he succeeded to stage Indonesian Film Festival 2004, with merely five movie productions in a year. This year there are 32 movie productions and were just celebrated in the Indonesian Film Festival 2005, seeing it as a promising leap for the years to come.
Marcella Zalianty and Nicolas Saputra were awarded the Best Actress and Actor of 2005 in the festival and received the Citra Awards. Riri Reza, the movie director of Gie, was awarded the Best Movie in 2005. The festival was a great success and it is hoped that in the years to come, the celebrations would be much better and more movies produced, said Minister Wacik and backed by Nicolas Saputra, showing a glimmering optimism in his eyes for Indonesian movie industry.
