The History of founding
The Forming of Cindai, started with existence of several senior
dancer which have had many vacant time. This matter incidentally in line
with idea of Cindai, because they wish they can find a place to be made
as the place for them to create well in order their hobby earn to be channeled.
Later on, the Local Government of North Sumatra give intensive practice;
Then they are recruited in “Team Artistry of North Sumatra"
(official) named “CINDAI" (means thin curtain)in according to situation in North Sumatra owning 8 ethnics, hence "Cindai"
even also accommodates artistry and dance from the 8 ethnics, packaged
nicely and persisted to keep each special ethnic so that make audience
interest and recognize the North Sumatra culture. Besides that, "Cindai"
can also play dances existed in around Sumatra (Aceh or West Sumatra,
because besides promoting North Sumatra, "Cindai" also promotes
Indonesia especially Sumatra) to the world
Local Government Support
Because "Cindai" represent team artistry of North Sumatra
Government to promote North Sumatra, hence there is supported by Tourism
department and BAINPROM (badan investigasi dan promosi). Even though not
many, but they support this artistry team. If mission of Cindai is achieved,
it will promote North Sumatra culture, mission from both this institution
also can be achieved, such as the existence of foreign and domestic tourists
and also investor which come to North Sumatra
Organization Chart / Management
For the management of CINDAI have been formed in such a way consisting
of PEMPROVSU, because this relate to the tourism promotion. Besides that,
also Adviser from tourism department head, BAINPROM, and also Mr. Panusunan
Pasaribu, the founder ( Mrs. Siti Mariam Rizal Nurdin) with daily builder,
Drs. Dahlan Nasution supported by secretary , treasury and all "
Cindai” supporter artists
Cindai Dance and Music equipment support
In this time Cindai Team have owned principal supply by applying own
will principle, also helped by PEMPROVSU. This Matter is conducted in
order later day, needn't rent cindai Dance and Music equipment. Absolutely,
It will much more economic in other daily operational
- A glace About Faluaya dance (war dance)
This dance comes from Nias Island. Agility and spirit of war are the expressions
that will be expressed in this tradition dance. Voice released by dancer
as its dance accompaniment externally is patriotic expression of Nias
society to head battlefield
- Lompat Batu (Stone jumping)
Stone jumping represent the tradition in Nias which up to now still take
place. Its original Stone is located in countryside in Nias archipelago.
Intention of this Stone jumping is a sign of maturity. If he earns to
pass stone heap as high as 2 meters more then he is called adult and earns
to marry. On the other hand, if he fails he is assumed as children. The
burned Spirit is also expressed through attractive stone jump motion.
In Cindai, this stone jumping in a series of artistry of Nias after Faluaya
dance
- Rentak sekaki Dance (Zapin Malay)
A new creation dance comes from Malay ethnic. Varieties footsteps made
by choreographer as basic idea in bearing new choreography but do not
eliminate Malay ethnic identity and also maksa from this dance. Step with
trailing feet in the floor, nothing doing step, crossed step are motion
shapes in this dance which physically describe happiness and spirited
soul.
- Endeng – Ending dance
This dance figures the spirit and daily society happiness expression.
Endeng – ending dance is a traditional dance coming from south Tapanuli
- Terang Bulan Dance
One of traditional dance comes from Karo. This Dance describes
the young couple romance under full moon light. This dance is performed
with slowly and smoothly motion characters
Serampang IX Dance
This traditional Dance comes from Malay. Figuring Malay young couple romance
started from early acquaintanceship until to marriage moment. Slowly and
smoothly Motion and shyness expression drawn through the woman dancer
and the man dancer figures gallant character, nimble and motivated. Marriage
symbol as this dance climax, is drawn through the meeting of two handcraft
used by dancers.
- Souan dance
This Dance comes from north Tapanuli. This Dance is ritual dance, last
time ago this dance performed by soothsayer while bring a cup of “Sesajen”
as healing of disease media for North Tapanuli society
- Sigale-Gale
Sigale-Gale is an artistry performance from North Tapanuli. Sigale-Gale
is a name of wood statue as a replace of Samosir king child that have
died. To amuse king, hence made wood statue named Sigale-gale and performed
by human being
- Manduda Dance
This Dance comes from Simalungun, figure farmer life going down
to rice field with happy atmosphere, start to plant paddy till to moment
of harvest time. Crosscut the paddy motion, “mengirik” and
“menampis” paddy drawn by its nimble and graceful movement
motifs
- Tak – Tak Garo-Garo dance
This Dance figures the birds’ life, fly freely and look for feeds
and play together. This dance comes from Phakpak, Dairi, and North Sumatra.
While the new step of Cindai are
- Zapin sajadah terkembang comes from Malay. This dance tells about sajadah,
used as five times praying media by Moslems toward the gods. After do
the prayer, gaining clean soul and new spirit to the young people to face
of life.In symbolic, Zapin Sajadah terkembang illustrated the spirtit
of togetherness in daily life.
- Ya Mualai Dance
Ya Mualai Dance comes from Malay. This modern dance is rooted at Malay
Ethnic. As a new expression, the dance illustrated the spirit of togetherness
with energetic movements.
Two dances that come from outside of North Sumatra which presented by
Cindai are :
- Saman Dance from Aceh
- Dantiang Piriang Dance from West Sumatra (Minangkabau)
